Your basic ocean floor --

These little signs are all over the place -- I really like the little graphic in the middle!

Since low tide at Hopewell Rocks was at 8:30 AM and high tide was at 2:30 PM, I had a bit of time to kill. I decided to visit Cape Enrage, some 30 miles to the west. It turned out to be a brutal 30 miles too - the road was pretty nasty - narrow, twisty and the home to thousands of pot-holes. But it turned out to be a worthwhile trip anyhow.

The lighthouse at Cape Enrage. This is actually a very short lighthouse - perhaps only 20' tall. But it sits on a very high cliff overlooking some treacherous shoals.

Cape Enrage has been restored, maintained and enhanced by a group of volunteers and high-school and college students as the Cape Enrage Interpretive Center. A part of that is Cape Enrage Adventures, which organizes sea-kayaking adventures and rappelling or climbing the rugged cliffs. Go here for more info.

The view from the Lighthouse.

Looking from the Lighthouse back to the center. The building houses a restaurant (I had lunch on the deck) and lodging for some of the students.

The view from the parking lot to the Lighthouse - the restaurant is in the center.

"And that's the wonderful thing about family travel:
it provides you with experiences that will remain locked forever in the scar tissue of your mind." -- Dave Barry
