Friday, 7/04/03, Day 16. Today, I visited the Shelburne Museum, a 45 acre eclectic collection of Americana and Art. There are some 39 "structures" on the grounds and some 25 of them are historic structures that have been moved to the museum and are mostly restored. There's a lighthouse that once stood on Lake Champlain, a 220 foot long side-wheel steamboat that once ran on Lake Champlain (The Ticonderoga - now a National Historic Landmark and nicely restored), a covered bridge, a meeting house, general store, and others. These structures are used to display other items in their collection - anything from paintings by Monet and Degas to early 19th century carriages and a whole barn full of early wood and metal-working tools. I spent about six hours on the grounds today. To see everything, you really need two days - they claim to have 180,000 items on display. |

Today is the 4th and I expected to go up to Burlington for their fireworks. For some reason, Burlington had their fireworks display on the 3rd, last night! What's with that? (I wondered what that noise was last night!) |
