Grand Am at Watkins Glen - Spring 2003

Race Day - The ICY/SL Motorsports #06  GTS Corvette on Pit Road. After lap 47, some 100 laps short of the eventual GTS winner.

So all we need here is a new radiator, a few hoses . . .

. . . some bungee cords, ty-raps, tie-downs and a little Gator-Ade to make it right.

Ooops. What's all that oil coming out the side of the block?

This team is supported by Rotary Lift,  a company specializing in a wide range of vehicle lifting products including automotive lifts, hydraulic car lifts and automotive hoists. An excerpt from their website -

"Rotary Lift continues to support the ICY (Inner City Youth) Racing team with their 2002 C6 Corvette in the Grand Am AGT division. The team members include professional drivers (Dave Rosenblum and Steve Lisa), a professional crew chief (Randy Wilmore), and inner city teenagers from the North Philadelphia area as crewmembers. Dave Rosenblum founded the program in 1985 and partners and co-drives with Steve Lisa, a prominent Arizona patent attorney.

Rosenblum, a recovered drug addict, wanted to find a way to combine his love of racing with his desire to help kids at risk. "ICY Racing gives kids who are straight, but vulnerable to the drug culture, an opportunity to stay straight," says Rosenblum. "I want to show them that there is a bigger world out there than just North Philadelphia."

So far, the program has been very successful. Young team members have graduated and gone on to work in factories, join the military, and attend vocational schools. States Rosenblum, "The program is not really meant to turn an untrained high school student into a master technician, but rather give them a chance to be part of a professional team and learn to contribute."

Rotary Lift became a team sponsor as a way to further their commitment to community development and support the basic mission to help underprivileged youth. "It's a perfect fit for us," states Matt Webster, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Rotary. "We're naturally involved with the automotive industry, and the philosophy of the ICY Racing team is the kind of positive message that all of corporate America should be supporting wherever they can."

ICY Racing started 18 years ago. Rosenblum has big plans for 2002 including reservations to speak at over 10 schools on avoiding drugs and alcohol."
