These are Daytona Prototypes and are basically stubby, ugly little cars that go pretty quick. The shape of the car is hostage to the rules of the series, the Grand American Road Racing Association, which is run by the France family of NASCAR fame. Grand Am has specified the shape and size of the main roll cage hoop, the overall length, width, wheelbase, overhang, ground effects and wing. This is what you get.

There are four classes in Grand Am. The Brumos cars above are representative of the Daytona Prototype (DP). The next class is the Sports Racing Prototype II (SRPII) which is generally a smaller, open cockpit car. These are mostly the purpose built exotics. The next class is the Grand Touring Super (GTS). This class is represented by the Mosler, Marcos, and the Trans Am type tube frame Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs. Finally we have Grand Touring (GT) which is home to BMW M3s, Ferraris, Corvettes and a variety of Porsches.

This week's class descriptions for the Grand Am Series can be found HERE.
