St Martins, New Brunswick
July 26-30, 2007 - Days 11-15 on the road. Part V.

A view from the Fundy Trail Parkway. Kind of an overcast day with a lot of mist in the distance.

Sixteen Percent is a pretty steep grade - I've only see 14% in the US. I believe I've seen steeper than 16% in Canada, but the grades weren't marked.

Fundy driftwood!

Another view from a turnout on the Fundy Trail.

This is the current Quaco Point Light just south of the entrance to the St Martin Harbor. It was built some 20 years ago to replace the original, which was falling into disrepair. After this, the new one, was built, the old one was burned - except for the cast iron top assembly . . .

. . . which was moved into town, restored and hoisted onto a new tower and turned into the local Visitor's Center - above.

This is the treachery that the Quaco Point Light is protecting. As this photo was taken, the tide was moving out - that's the rough water between the point and the rocks in the background.

A closer view of the rough tidal currents.

One of two covered bridges in St Martin.

The second covered bridge in St Martin. Both are in continuous use on major thouroghfares (for St Martin anyhow) in the village.
