Ken's Journal - Spring 2003

The Common Murre,  about the size of a duck. The two on the right are a breeding pair. The one on the left is the "bridled" form of the common Murre.  I watched this trio for a while and finally concluded the bridled morph is a breeding male trying to horn in on the other males territory! He kept trying to get in between this pair but all his advances were rebuffed by the one in the center (the female?) and he was chased by the one on the right (the male?).

The same breeding pair - different pose. This one is really relaxed - just sitting there propped on it's heels and tail.
