This bird dives for it's prey, but is one of the few species to actually spear small fish on it's bill. It is also one of the few birds with no oil on it's feathers. You often see it perched with it's wings spread in the sun to dry. Also called a "swamp turkey," perhaps because of the noise it makes, or "snake bird," because it often swims underwater with only it's head and neck above water. Above, why it's called a "snake bird."
